Overview

Economies answer three questions: what to produce, how to produce it and who receives it. Traditional, command, market and mixed economies answer them differently, and most countries today run mixed economies. Governments also take different forms: democracies, monarchies, one-party states and federations. International organisations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and regional unions coordinate trade, aid and peacekeeping across borders.
